And as I ride upon that large rock, in my perception, I stand outside my home and listen to the birds chirp, feel the cool breeze, and watch the first rays of the sun appear to my view. I find moments of peace, quiet, and calm in a planet that is nothing but.
My reality: If I miss lunch, I am starving.
My reality: It is inconvenient to wait a minute for the hot water to start flowing in the shower.
My reality: My world looks for ways to create physical activity in order to exercise.
Let’s face it … even today, the greatest display of “racial diversity” in Utah happens when the Utah Jazz play a team from out-of-town. And in that venue, the out-of-towners get booed by the home crowd.
That was one crazy dream, which I was very glad to wake up from.
Some days I read the newspaper, and just want to yell back at the articles. The paper doesn’t listen, so I write about it here instead.
Once, on an ordinary day at the Wilkinson Student Center, located on the campus of Brigham Young University, an engineering student sat at a table quietly eating his lunch. As he sat contemplating the composition of the macaroni salad (and specifically marveling at how the ingredients held their texture while withstanding the forces of the moisture provided by the mayonnaise), he failed to swallow properly and unfortunately, met an early demise.
In the next moment found himself standing atop a cloud, surrounded by the most beautiful blue sky. He heard harp music, and when he turned to see from where it was coming, he found that he was in the back of a very short line to enter the Pearly Gates.
Sister Friendly had a tough job. Teaching Sharing Time was a difficult thing for me to do once a year, and so I didn’t envy her. But sometimes the lessons she choose didn’t seem “age appropriate.” For instance, her crossword puzzles were probably a big hit in the Senior Primary, where the kids knew how to read. But in Junior Primary, the Sunbeams just colored the boxes, not understanding what she was talking about. The teachers each talked their class through the answers, about the words and the concepts, and helped with the spelling.
Then came the unforgettable lesson of October 2001.
Following tonight’s devastating blow dealt to Brigham Young University Cougar fans, convenience stores on the outskirts of BYU campus reported an unusual run on carbonated beverages.
“A good man, out of the good treasure of his heart, bringeth forth that which is good.” (Jesus, quoted by Luke; punctuation modernized)
